The photo on the left is taken with with a fixed aperture (AV mode), the photo on the right is the finished HDR shot which is composed of 3 shots using a bracketing of +3,-3 and the correct exposure as controlled by the camera. Note the detail that has come out in the HDR shot of the walls, and the increased depth in the shot., Once you have processed the HDR image, remember do not do any editing to the original photos prior to applying HDR as this will effect the finished shot. Open the photo in your editing program and then crop and finish the shots by removing any distracting items and apply and final filters to the shot, to create your finished HDR photo..

Taken at the Old Melbourne jail in Melbourne Australia. The shot on the left is as the camera metered using a fixed aperture, the 3 shots used where done handheld as the location was a public area with many people walking around so a tripod was not an option. To adjust for the low light and achieve a reasonable depth of field while shooting hand held, I used a high ISO 3200, this does mean you get more noise in your shots which may require you to run a noise reduction program to correct this. The shot on the right is the combined and edited HDR photo using 3 shots combined in Photomatix and finished in CS5 note the detail and the extra texture.created by HDR photography.

The above shots where taken at the Coptic Church in Hallam in Victoria, the shot on the left is exposed correctly by the camera meter, you'll note that the colour is flat but you can see the detail in the shot.

The shot on the right is the restult of combining 3 shots at +/- 3 EV (stops) using Photomatix software to produce the HDR photo.

Once i had adjusted the settings in Photomatix and was happy with the look of the HDR shot, I save the resulting HDR shot as a TIFF and then opened it in Photoshop CS5 from there its do the final cropping and a little touch up and enhancement of the centre cross the make it stand out more, duplicate the layer and run the high pass filter on it, set it to hard light and flattern the layer, i then sharpened the HDR image. I then enhance the sky's colour with NIK Efex pro and saved the HDR image in TIFF and JPEG.
